In-person Counselling FAQs…

+ How do I book a session?

To book an initial session with me you can call me on 01323 348034 | 07842 476345 or send me an email. You can also complete the contact form on my website here.

+ What happens at the first session?

At the first session you will be able to meet me, explore what brings you to counselling and what you'd like to get out of the sessions. You can also ask me any questions you have about how I work. We'll discuss things like how many sessions you might have, when, and what the focus will be. After this you can decide whether you'd like to book more sessions with me and you are under no obligation to continue.

+ How much does a session cost?

The first session is 50 minutes long and will cost £30. Following an initial session, each counselling session is 50 minutes long and will cost £60.

+ How do I pay for my sessions?

I would invoice you monthly at the end of the 3rd week of the month for the sessions for the month. At present, I ask that you pay by BACS (bank transfer) and my account details are given on the invoice.

+ Are my counsellng sessions confidential?

Yes, your sessions and communications with me are confidential. As with other counsellors, there are the following exceptions:

  • I may talk about you in supervision to ensure I am working ethically and competently.
  • I reserve the right to break confidentiality if I feel there is a risk to yourself or to someone else.
  • If you tell me you intend to hurt someone or to commit a crime.

As a registered member of the BACP, I observe their ethical framework. I take your privacy and confidentiality seriously.

+ How many sessions do I need?

This will depend on what you want to explore and how broad or narrow the focus of the work is. Some people will find that short term counselling of, say, 12 sessions is enough (perhaps there is a particular relationship or situation you are struggling with), while others will benefit from longer term counselling. We will discuss this at the initial session.

+ Can I come to therapy with you every 2 weeks instead of weekly?

Therapy requires commitment by both client and counsellor as it works relationally. This means that for the therapy to be beneficial we need to agree to at least weekly contact to develop the relational depth and trust needed for the work to make an impact. There may be weeks I miss due to holiday (Christmas, Easter, Summer) and due to training, but I will try to give you at least a month's notice of when I'll be away.

+ Do you work with children and young people under the age of 18?

I am accredited to work with adults, but I'm not currently accredited to provide counselling to any person who is under the age of 18. However, I can help with information and referral to other to counsellors and services in the Eastbourne area which are specifically directed toward a younger age group.
